Dear Dawnya,

What time of day is each type of tea best to drink for health benefits?

Sincerely,

Health Concerns

Dear Health Concerns,

Tea comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant and while it may take the form of white, green, oolong, black or pu erh, it is still from the same plant.  The tea plant provides a huge variety of health benefits and  I suggest you drink tea throughout your day for a variety of reasons.  Here are just a few:

Black tea – Black tea has been shown in numerous studies to be rich in brain enhancing chemicals.  Black tea can help you think clearly and enhance your memory.  It has also been shown to increase heart health particularly in women.

Green tea– Green tea is often touted for its anti- cancer and anti-viral properties.  It is currently the hot “promotion” drink amongst many fitness programs.

White tea– White tea is high in antioxidants and is reported to help your skin fight wrinkles.

Puerh tea– If you struggle with digestion Pu Erh can turn your stomach troubles around.  This fermented and aged tea is said to bring a troubled digestive system around.

Oolong tea– Oolong has been touted for weight loss and recently energy enhancement.  Need a skip in your step? Try a pot of Oolong.

With that said, I would encourage you to decide what your health goals are and find a tea that focuses on that need.  Once you find your “go to” tea, drink it throughout the day.  If you are sensitive to light caffeine stop drinking tea by 4 pm.  A Rooibos herbal is a very soothing way to enhance your health at the end of the day without caffeine.

Hope that helps,

Dawnya
